For athletes, the approaches for losing weight are many, while some follow the dieting and exercising tips with an aim to perform better; others consider losing weight, so that they fall within the weight range, put forth by the concerned coaches. Prior to starting the weight loss diet, a sportsperson should keep a note of the current body weight, balanced diet for athletes and how much kilos s/he needs to lose within a specific time span. As per physical fitness experts, losing 1-2 pounds per week is ideal for athletes. Discussed below are the dietary recommendations for healthy weight loss of athletes:
Do not Eliminate Carbohydrate
Being the major source of energy for the body, carbohydrate is a must to include nutrient in an athlete’s diet. It is directly responsible for maintaining the stamina level, which is crucial for an athlete to perform better. The daily carbohydrate requirement is determined based on the level of activity and body weight. On an average, an individual needs 6-10 g carbohydrate per day or 50-60 percent calories should be contributed by carbs. Eat whole grains and alike good foods, and refrain from refined carbohydrates.
Include More Proteins
In the athletes diet to lose weight, protein forms the base nutrient. It helps in replacing blood cells, strengthening defense system, secreting hormones and more importantly, muscle building. The amount of protein required per day by an athlete is 1.2-1.7 g/kg of body weight. In other words, protein should contribute 15-20 percent of the daily calorie intake. Athletes who are into resistance training need more protein than others. And maximum protein should come from beans, cheese, eggs, poultry and lean meat.
Incorporate Good Fats
All of us have a misconception that fats are not good for bodybuilding professionals and athletes, which is not the case. The point is, consume healthy fats not the unhealthy ones. It is suggested that approximately 25-30 percent of the daily calorie requirement should come from healthy fats. Reduce fats from oils, butter and fatty substances, rather consume fish that contain high percentage of omega 3 fatty acids.

Low Fat Milk
This is one of the healthiest snacks for athletes. A glass of milk will suffice for any snack meal. One can choose to make a milkshake by adding a fruit to the milk or simply have a plain glass of milk. Vegans can opt for soy milk, to get their share of milk proteins in their diet.
Yogurt
One of my personal favorite protein snacks is yogurt. I always go for the low fat version. It is said that yogurt contains complete proteins and provides the body with all the necessary nutrients. Also carrying yogurt around is rather easy, as the prepackaged containers are spill proof.
Eggs
People on high protein diets cannot exclude eggs from their diet. I am sure there aren’t many people who get bored eating eggs, as there is a huge variety of dishes that one can whip up using eggs. If a person’s running late or wants to have healthy proteins after a workout, then the best option is to have boiled eggs without the yolk.
Cheese
It makes for a wonderful high protein snack for athletes. One can opt for a low fat variety or even snack on some homemade cottage cheese. Vegans can go in for vegan cheese, tofu, etc. It is always best to stick to the low fat version of the cheese.
Smoothies
They are a great option after a rigorous workout. There are innumerable options that can be made. Either choose low fat milk or opt for frozen yogurt to make the smoothies. Choose a different fruit every time to avoid monotony from setting in.

On arriving for your first ‘flight’, you will be given a briefing from an experienced instructor. This might involve you balancing ‘belly-down’ on a chair, in an attempt to create the perfect ‘flying shape’. Following this, you will change into your (usually psychedelic) flight suit, helmet, goggles and ear plugs (you will understand why you need these later) and you are then ready.
When it’s your turn to fly, you will stand at the doorway of the wind tunnel and, on your instructor’s say so, lean forward and fall into the airflow. You are now flying. The noise will be deafening and so your instructor will give you direction via some pre-determined hand signals (not dissimilar to those used in diving). You can control your flying by increasing or diminishing the drag of your body and by using your arms and legs as rudders. The best way to learn is to experiment and to think of yourself as an aeroplane (I was a B2 Bomber – slow and stealth-like).
You will usually get two one-minute sessions of flying, which might seem measly until you consider that a ‘real’ skydive, from a height of 10,000 feet, would only provide you with about 30 seconds of free fall. Hence you are getting the equivalent of four skydives.
Indoor skydiving is suitable for everyone. The instructors will consider your age, shape and ability level and set the wind speed accordingly. On average, the wind speed is just over 120 miles per hour. This matches the terminal velocity of a normal-sized human being falling from high above. With indoor skydiving it is necessary to create that same speed, but blowing air upwards.
If you catch the skydiving ‘bug’ you can sign up for further classes and learn how to do turns, rolls, formation flying and pretty much any acrobatic maneuver that you can think of. And all this at just a few feet from the ground.

The ladder golf game is an outdoor game played with two or more teams. Ideally most people will play with two teams, but with more than two teams playing the game, it is even more fun. In each team, there is one or more players. The game consists of a setup which has a ladder with 3 rungs, and a rope that has two golf balls or rubber balls attached to it, which is called as a bola. The players have to toss the bola so as to wrap it around the steps or the rungs of the ladder. Each player gets 3 bolas to play, one at each time.
Playing Ladder Golf
Before the game begins, the teams must toss a coin to decide who plays first for the tossing of bolas. After the first round of each team, the team with the maximum number of points plays first in the next round. •The toss line is marked which is the spot from where the players will toss the bola. This is set at about 15 feet distance from the ladder.
•Every player in the team will get one turn to toss the bolas, and all three bolas need to be tossed one after the other by the player. Once the player finishes his / her turn, the next player must toss his set of bolas. The way a player tosses the bolas is an individual choice.
•After each player finishes the turn in both teams, the team with maximum points plays the first turn in the following round.
•The scoring rules for ladder golf are simple. If you hang the bola in the top rung (ladder step) you score 3 points, for the bola on the second or middle rung the player earns 2 points, and for the last rung you score 1 point. In case you wrap all the bolas on one rung only, you score an additional bonus of 1 point. The players can also knock off the opponent’s bolas off the rung, so the points will be deducted from their score, which counts as defensive play.
•The total number of points to win is 21. The team must make 21 points to win, the player should be the only one to make 21 points by the end of the round to win. If the exact total of 21 is achieved and the player goes above this score, all the points scored are considered void. They are not counted for the particular round and the player carries the points to the next round. Check this example to understand better: A player earns 18 points in one round and has 5 points yet to be counted on the ladder, the 5 points are not considered and the player has to carry the 18 points to the next round and earn exact 3 points in that round to make a total of 21.
