The San Antonio Spurs eliminated the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 in Game 6 on Friday, advancing to the Western Conference finals with one of the highest-scoring playoff performances in franchise history. Stephon Castle, De'Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper delivered the offensive firepower that powered the Spurs' decisive victory, combining for 68 points and 27 rebounds.
Castle led the way with 32 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, hitting five three-pointers to set a career high in both the regular season and playoffs. Fox added 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting while dishing out four assists. Harper chipped in 15 points in 20 minutes, hitting 6-of-8 from the field. The trio shot 23-of-30 from the field and 9-of-12 from beyond the arc through three quarters, contributing 58.2% of San Antonio’s scoring in that span.
The Spurs set a postseason record with 18 three-pointers in the game, including nine from Castle, Fox and Harper. Victor Wembanyama added 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks, joining David Robinson as the only players with at least 200 points, 100 rebounds and 40 blocks through their first 10 career playoff games.
San Antonio’s 139-point total ranks third in franchise playoff history and marks the first time the team has reached the conference finals since 2017. The Spurs now face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference finals, with Game 1 set for Monday at Paycom Center. The Thunder are favored by 6.5 points and are -260 favorites to reach the NBA Finals.
“We've just got to have the mindset of we're going to keep the foot on the gas no matter what,” said Harper.
Wembanyama praised Castle for his performance, noting that Castle’s composure and decision-making helped stretch the defense and create opportunities for the rest of the team. Castle joined legends like Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, George Gervin and David Robinson as the fifth player in Spurs history to reach at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a clinching playoff game.
Fox matched Kawhi Leonard’s 2017 performance by shooting 80% from the field and scoring 20 or more points in a postseason game.
The Spurs will look to carry this momentum into the next round as they prepare to face a Thunder team that has dominated the Western Conference all season. With a 15th conference finals appearance in franchise history on the line, San Antonio will aim to prove it can contend with the league’s elite.
