The Oklahoma City Thunder have secured long-term stability by locking up their core trio of Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander through at least the 2029-30 season. Holmgren and Williams signed five-year rookie scale extensions, while SGA signed a four-year extension, keeping all three All-Stars under contract without using any trade exceptions or cap penalties.
Holmgren’s rookie scale deal will start at 25% of the salary cap and is projected to be worth $239.25 million over five years. His base salary for the 2025-26 season is expected to be $41.25 million. Despite earning All-NBA Third Team honors, Holmgren’s extension lacks escalators tied to postseason awards due to his limited game appearances in his first three seasons, just 114 regular-season games.
Williams signed a similar rookie scale extension, also worth 25% of the cap and projected at $239.25 million. He missed too many games this season to qualify for postseason award escalators. Neither Holmgren nor Williams has a player or team option in their contracts, ensuring the Thunder have full control of their core through the 2029-30 season.
SGA’s deal is a four-year extension projected to be worth $272.4 million. He will enter that contract in the 2027-28 season, making him the highest-paid player on the roster during the final two years of the deal. Combined with Holmgren and Williams, the Thunder’s three All-Stars will all be under contract through at least the 2029-30 season, giving Oklahoma City long-term continuity.
The Thunder’s cap management has been a model of efficiency. By locking up Holmgren and Williams on rookie scale extensions and negotiating SGA’s deal well in advance of his free agency window, the team has avoided midseason complications and built a balanced future.
The next major date for the Thunder will be the 2025 NBA Draft and free agency, where they could look to add depth or continue building around their young core.
