The Detroit Lions are entering the 2026 NFL season with one of the most promising rookie classes in recent memory, highlighted by a potential Pro Bowl-caliber offensive tackle in Blake Miller. After a rocky 2025 season that saw the Lions drop from 15-2 in 2024 to 9-8, the team turned to the draft to rebuild its offensive line. Miller, a first-round pick from Clemson, is expected to be the cornerstone of a revamped unit that could help quarterback Jared Goff and running back Jahmyr Gibbs thrive once again.
Miller’s combination of length, strength, and technique makes him a top-tier pass protector. At 6-6 and 315 pounds, he has the ideal frame for a right tackle, and his footwork and agility in pass protection are elite for a player of his size. In college, Miller recorded a 97th percentile pass-blocking grade by Pro Football Focus in 2025, allowing just one sack in over 600 pass-blocking snaps. His ability to anchor and redirect speed rushers was a key factor in Clemson’s improved offensive line production.
Derrick Moore, the Lions’ second-round pick, is projected to be a solid starter on the defensive side of the ball. The Michigan edge rusher tallied 10 sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss in 2025, showing explosive burst off the ball and the ability to beat tackles with speed and hand usage. Moore’s performance at the Senior Bowl further solidified his potential as a rotational pass rusher. While his size limits his ceiling, Moore should be a reliable complement to Aidan Hutchinson on Detroit’s defensive line.

The Lions also drafted Jimmy Rolder in the fourth round to add depth at linebacker. With Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes already established, Rolder is expected to contribute as a backup and special teams ace. His instinctive run defense and physicality could see him platooning with Malcolm Rodriguez in base packages.

With a strong offensive line coach in Hank Fraley and a veteran presence in Penei Sewell, Miller is in a prime situation to succeed. The Lions’ 2026 rookie class could be the key to turning their offense around and returning to contender status in the NFC North.
