TITLE: Dexter Lawrence Seeks Trade from Giants; 8 Teams Emerge as Potential Landing Spots
New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade, putting the franchise on notice as the seven-time Pro Bowler seeks a fresh start. With two years remaining on a contract that pays him $18.5 million in 2026 and $18 million in 2027, the Giants face a difficult decision between re-signing the 29-year-old or trading him for what may be modest compensation.
Despite a down season in 2025—where he recorded 31 tackles and 0.5 sacks across 17 games—Lawrence remains one of the most disruptive interior pass rushers in the league. His ability to collapse the pocket and generate pressure without extra rushers is a rare commodity. The Giants ranked 31st in sack rate, 32nd in yards per attempt allowed, and 27th in EPA per pass when he was off the field, underscoring his impact.
New York coach John Harbaugh called the trade request “a shot across the bow,” but the Giants’ front office must now decide whether to meet Lawrence’s contract demands or trade him. The latter option would leave a gaping hole in the middle of a defense already struggling to generate consistent pressure.
Las Vegas Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler has the cap space and draft capital to make a strong offer. Pairing Lawrence with Maxx Crosby would create a formidable one-two punch. The Raiders have 11 draft picks and $28 million in cap space, giving them flexibility to structure a deal that could appeal to the Giants.
Cincinnati Bengals have a need after losing Trey Hendrickson, but their reluctance to spend big in free agency and a top-heavy cap situation may limit their interest. However, a Lawrence-Jonathan Allen duo could elevate the defense and support Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.
Baltimore Ravens, led by new defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, could use Lawrence to pair with Hendrickson and Maxx Crosby. The Ravens have salary cap flexibility and 11 draft picks, making them a viable trade partner. They also have questions at the interior defensive tackle position with Nnamdi Madubuike’s uncertain future.
Chicago Bears could plug a hole in their defense and boost their pass rush with Lawrence. GM Ryan Poles has shown a willingness to make bold moves, and Lawrence would fit well in coordinator Dennis Allen’s system. However, cap space remains a concern.
Los Angeles Chargers have the cap space to meet Lawrence’s demands and the need for an interior disruptor. Pairing him with Khalil Mack and Teair Tart could transform their front seven. The move would also represent a bold statement under Jim Harbaugh.
Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars are also in the mix. Caserio has the assets to make a trade work, while Gladstone has shown no fear in making aggressive moves. Both teams could see Lawrence as the final piece of a championship-caliber defense.
The Giants have until April 15 to decide whether to meet Lawrence’s contract demands or trade him. The clock is ticking.

The Belfast Giants, Cardiff Devils, and Sheffield Steelers lead the way in securing top talent ahead of the new campaign. Players like Mike Lee and Josh Roach have joined the Giants, while the Steelers added Olivier Archambault and Mitchell Balmas to bolster their offense.
