The Philadelphia Flyers' season ended sooner than expected, but their attention has already turned to the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. After a strong playoff run, the Flyers are still a work in progress. While a full rebuild may be over, the team’s long-term success hinges on the draft. With multiple positional needs and a deep pool of prospects, Philly is poised to add impact players in June.
The Flyers’ biggest need remains a top-center. Jack Berglund, 18, has emerged as a top prospect, posting 25 goals and 33 assists for Windsor in the OHL. He’s already showing NHL-ready size and skill but won’t be in Philly for at least another season. Jack Nesbitt, who won over 50% of his faceoffs, is another name to watch. His offensive instincts and two-way play make him a top-10 candidate.
On the wing, the Flyers need more firepower. JP Hurlbert, a Michigan commit, is a rising star with a 28-goal season in the CHL. Yegor Shilov, who signed with Penn State, has consistently scored 30+ goals each season. His 6-foot-2 frame and offensive production could land him in the first round. Nikita Klepov, a left wing prospect heading to Michigan State, is also generating buzz with his two-way game.
Defensively, the Flyers have depth but lack a power-play quarterback. Oliver Bonk is the top in-house option, but the team will likely target a defenseman with offensive upside. Xavier Villeneuve, a Boston University commit, is a potential first-rounder with a 6-foot-4 frame and two-way versatility. Malte Gustafsson and Nikita Shcherbakov could also be on Philly’s radar.

The Flyers’ goaltending situation is evolving. Dan Vladar was the team’s most valuable player, while Sam Ersson’s future is uncertain. Alexei Kolosov, signed through next season, shows first-line potential but has yet to break through. Yegor Zavragin, the Flyers’ top goalie prospect, is expected to stay in Russia for at least one more season. Philly may add 1-2 goalies in the second round or later.
With the draft just over a month away, the Flyers have a chance to reshape their future. The team is expected to prioritize forwards, especially a two-way center, and a power-play defenseman. The 2026 class is deep, and Philly’s scouts are already making their final evaluations. The draft lottery will determine where the Flyers pick, but their needs are clear.
