The Carolina Hurricanes came from two goals down in the third period to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime and even the best-of-seven series at 1-1. Seth Jarvis scored the game-winner on the power play in the extra session, and Frederik Andersen stopped 23 of 26 shots in net for the win.
Vegas came out strong early. Brent Howden opened the scoring in the first period and added a second goal in the second to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead. Howden’s two goals marked the first multi-goal game of the playoffs for the Knights. Carolina struggled to find its rhythm in the first two periods, mustering only one goal before the third.
The turning point came just past the midpoint of the third. Logan Stankoven forced a turnover and scored with a slick wraparound goal to cut the deficit to one. Less than two minutes later, Mark Jankowski tied the game with a wrist shot from the left circle. With under two minutes left, Jordan Staal gave Carolina the lead on a power play goal, his first of the postseason.
Vegas responded quickly. Mark Stone, who leads the Golden Knights in playoff scoring, tied the game with a power-play goal of his own at 14:39 of the third. The game remained tied through regulation, setting the stage for a dramatic overtime.
In the extra frame, Jarvis made the difference. The Hurricanes’ forward scored at 3:56 on the power play, capping off a relentless fourth-period push. Jarvis now has two goals in the series and is emerging as a key player for Carolina in the playoffs.

Andersen was steady all night, particularly in the third period when the Hurricanes were buzzing. His 23 saves were a season high in the playoffs and helped keep Carolina in the game long enough to complete the comeback.
The Golden Knights will now return to Las Vegas for Games 3 and 4 at T-Mobile Arena. The Hurricanes will look to steal another road win in a series that is already showing no signs of slowing down.
