The Sheffield Steelers dominated the Manchester Storm 6-0 at the Nottingham Arena, securing their spot in the Play-Off Final with a commanding performance that included a record-breaking shutout by goaltender Matthew Greenfield.
Greenfield, who made 23 saves, broke the Steelers' all-time shutout record with his 25th career blanking, surpassing Jody Lehman. His performance was the key to a defensive effort that allowed just 23 shots while killing all penalties. The Steelers also went 2 for 4 on the powerplay, converting key opportunities with precision.
Ryan Tait led the attack with two goals, both on the powerplay, while Mitchell Heard added two goals and two assists. Tait’s first goal came midway through the first period after a tip on a Dominic Cormier setup, and his second came in the third after a strong net-front presence. Heard’s first goal in the second period and second in the third period gave the Steelers a commanding lead.
The first period set the tone. The Steelers controlled play and tested Manchester goaltender Drew DeRidder, who faced 14 shots. Greenfield, meanwhile, stopped 8 of 9 shots, including a key early save on Gary Haden. The powerplay struck in the 10th minute with Tait’s goal, giving Sheffield a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period saw the Steelers continue their pressure. Mitchell Heard scored his first of the night just after the midpoint, making it 2-0. DeRidder made 13 saves in the period, including a spectacular stop on Jasper late in the frame, but the Steelers held the lead.

The third period was all Sheffield. After Evan Jasper made it 3-0, Tait and Heard each added a second goal, and Stephen Harper capped the scoring with a powerplay goal from the point. The Storm, outshot 43-23 for the game, could not generate consistent momentum.
With the victory, the Steelers advance to the Play-Off Final where they will face the Cardiff Devils. The Devils await the conclusion of their own semi-final series. Sheffield’s next game is set for next weekend, with the Final location and date to be announced.
