The Chicago Wolves dropped Game 1 of the 2026 Calder Cup Final 4-2 to the Toronto Marlies at Allstate Arena on Friday night. Bradly Nadeau and Skyler Brind’Amour each scored for Chicago, but Toronto’s Vinni Lettieri netted the game-winner and added an empty-net goal in the third period to seal the victory.
Chicago struck first when Nadeau buried a rebound goal midway through the first period. The Wolves’ forward capitalized on a rebound of a Ryan Suzuki shot near the left post, finding the back of the net past Marlies goaltender Artur Akhtyamov. Nadeau’s sixth postseason goal put Chicago up 1-0 early.
Toronto answered late in the first with a tally from Ben Danford, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the second period. The Marlies controlled the pace for much of the second frame and regained the lead when Cedric Pare scored with just over a minute left in the period to tie the game at 2-2 after two periods of play.
Brind’Amour gave Chicago a 2-1 lead late in the second with a slick backhand finish. The goal was assisted by Noel Gunler and Charles Alexis Legault, who threaded a perfect pass from the blue line into Brind’Amour’s slot. The goal was Brind’Amour’s second of the playoffs.
The momentum shifted in Toronto’s favor when Lettieri tallied the winner midway through the third period. He sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final minutes to give the Marlies a 4-2 advantage.

Goaltenders Amir Miftakhov (21 saves) and Akhtyamov (26 saves) both posted strong performances, but Toronto’s netminder came out on top with the victory.
The Wolves now trail the best-of-seven series 1-0 and will look to bounce back in Game 2 on Sunday at Allstate Arena. The series will continue in Toronto for Game 3 on Tuesday.
