The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday that forward Max Domi is out indefinitely due to complications from offseason surgery. The 31-year-old will be reevaluated at the start of training camp and will continue to work with the team's medical staff.
Domi played a key role for the Maple Leafs this season, recording 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists) in 80 games. The surgery, which he underwent to address an issue he played through during the season, has now delayed his availability for the upcoming campaign.
A veteran of 15 NHL seasons, Domi has 486 points (150 goals, 336 assists) in 815 regular-season games. He has played for the Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, and now the Maple Leafs.
Domi signed a four-year, $15 million contract with Toronto on July 1, 2024. The deal has two seasons remaining, with an average annual value of $3.75 million. His absence could impact the Maple Leafs' forward depth during the 2025 season.
The Maple Leafs said in a statement that Domi will continue to work with the club’s medical staff until the start of training camp. The team will not provide further updates until then.

With Domi sidelined, the Maple Leafs will need to adjust their lineup. Young forwards and potential trade targets could see more opportunities to step into a larger role. The team's depth chart may shift depending on how training camp and the preseason unfold.
The Maple Leafs will begin training camp on Sept. 15. Domi’s status will be reevaluated at that time, and the team will decide whether he will be available for the start of the regular season.

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in Game 3 of their playoff series on May 26, 2026, with a commanding 38-13 shot advantage that exposed flaws in Montreal’s conservative game plan.
