Yaniv Perets of the Reading Royals has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for April 6-12. The 26-year-old netminder earned the recognition for his performance in two games against the Wheeling Nailers, where he posted a 1-0-1 record with a 1.90 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage.
Perets made 36 saves in a 3-2 victory over Wheeling on Friday and followed up with 34 stops in a 2-1 overtime loss on Sunday. His consistency and composure under pressure have made him a key piece for Reading as the season winds down.
Currently under contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, Perets has been a valuable asset for the Royals this season. In 27 appearances, he is 14-8-4 with three shutouts, a 2.84 goals-against average, and a .910 save percentage. His performance in the ECHL continues to showcase his readiness for higher-level competition.
Perets has established himself as one of the league’s top young goaltenders. Over his career in the ECHL, he has played 88 games across three teams, recording a 44-31-8 record, eight shutouts, a 2.82 goals-against average, and a .906 save percentage. His AHL experience includes a 2-4-1 record in seven games with Lehigh Valley and the Chicago Wolves.
Before turning pro, Perets starred at Quinnipiac University, where he played a pivotal role in the team’s 2023 National Championship run. In 74 games for the Bobcats, he posted a 56-9-5 record with 21 shutouts, a 1.34 goals-against average, and a .935 save percentage.

The recognition marks the second time this season and the third overall in Perets’ career that he has received the ECHL’s weekly goaltender honor. His performance has not only elevated Reading’s chances but also increased his visibility as a potential NHL call-up.
Perets has also appeared in two games with the Carolina Hurricanes, giving him valuable experience at the highest level. His development continues to be a point of interest for both the Hurricanes and the Phantoms as they evaluate their goaltending options.
Reading will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season. Perets’ ability to perform consistently in high-pressure situations could give the Royals a strong chance to make a playoff push.
