The Augusta Lynx are set to become the ECHL’s 32nd team, with co-owners Tim Tebow and David Hodges unveiling the franchise’s new name and logo at a public event in Augusta, Georgia. The team will begin play in the 2027-2028 season at the new Augusta Arena, a 10,500-seat facility under construction in downtown Augusta.
The Lynx branding was developed with input from the local community, including a public naming process that featured fan submissions. The final logo was created by The Barn Creative, a design firm that incorporated regional elements to reflect the Augusta area. The team will be operated by Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, a management company with experience in professional hockey.
Tim Tebow, a former NFL quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, expressed excitement about bringing the franchise to Augusta. “We’re so excited to bring this team to Augusta and introduce something truly special for our fans,” he said. “Our hope is to create an experience that brings families together, builds lasting memories, and reflects the heart of this community.”
David Hodges, a principal in the family office and managing director of private equity firm 925 Partners, emphasized the team’s commitment to the community. “Being part of this new chapter in Augusta is incredibly meaningful to us,” he said. “We’re committed to investing in this community and building something that goes beyond the game.”
The Augusta Lynx will play 36 home games at the Augusta Arena, which is expected to open in time for the 2027-28 season. The venue will be managed by Oak View Group, which currently oversees or provides services for four NHL arenas and multiple AHL and ECHL facilities across North America.

Todd Mastry, General Manager of Oak View Group, praised the team’s vision. “The Augusta Lynx pays tribute to the history and spirit of this community while representing the exciting future of hockey in Augusta,” he said. “As we look ahead to the inaugural 2027–28 season in the brand-new Augusta Arena, we can’t wait to bring fans together for an electric atmosphere night after night.”
ECHL Commissioner Ryan Crelin highlighted the significance of the team’s addition. “The addition of Augusta strengthens our footprint in the Southeast and continues the strategic growth of the ECHL,” he said. “Tim and David have demonstrated a commitment to building high-quality franchises, and we look forward to welcoming the Lynx to the league.”
The Lynx will announce their NHL and AHL affiliations, as well as the hiring of a head coach, in the coming months. The jersey and mascot will also be revealed ahead of the 2027-2028 season.
