TITLE: USWNT Announces Roster for Japan Series with Sophia Wilson and Tierna Davidson Returning
The U.S. Women’s National Team announced its 26-player roster for a three-game series against Japan in April, marking the return of Sophia Wilson and Tierna Davidson. Wilson, who missed nearly a year due to maternity leave, and Davidson, sidelined since tearing her ACL in 2025, are both back in the fold as the USWNT prepares for a top-tier challenge.
The matches against Japan come after the Asian champions won the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup in Australia with a dominant 29-1 tournament goal differential, defeating Australia 3-1 in the final. Japan’s success underlines the significance of the upcoming matches for the USWNT, who will face a team at the peak of its form.
For the second consecutive international window, the USWNT roster consists entirely of capped players. Head coach Emma Hayes emphasized the importance of the return of Wilson and Davidson, calling them “not only great players but also contribute positively to our team environment.” Hayes added that Japan is “performing at a very high level” and that the series will be a “massive test.”
Sophia Wilson returns for the Portland Thorns FC after making her comeback in March following maternity leave. Tierna Davidson, who played for Gotham FC, missed the entire 2025 season due to a torn ACL. Their inclusion signals a strong commitment to depth and experience as the USWNT looks to build on recent success.
The roster features 3 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 7 midfielders, and 7 forwards. Jane Campbell (Houston Dash), Claudia Dickey (Seattle Reign FC), and Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Manchester United) are the goalkeeping options. Defenders include Emily Fox (Arsenal FC), Naomi Girma (Chelsea FC), and Kennedy Wesley (San Diego Wave FC), while the midfield is led by Rose Lavelle (Gotham FC) and Jaedyn Shaw (Gotham FC).
Up front, the USWNT has a mix of youth and experience with Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit), Alyssa Thompson (Chelsea FC), and Michelle Cooper (Kansas City Current) all set to take part in the matches. Sophia Wilson’s return adds a veteran presence to the attacking line.
The USWNT will open the series on April 11 in San Jose, followed by matches in Seattle on April 14 and Denver on April 17. The games will be critical for team building and preparation ahead of future tournaments.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
