The Denver Nuggets secured a hard-fought 114-111 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in a high-stakes Western Conference clash at Ball Arena on Friday night. With the regular season nearing its conclusion, both teams entered with playoff seeding on the line and the intensity showing from the opening tip.
Oklahoma City (63-16) entered as the top seed in the West, while Denver (51-28) was locked in a tight battle for the second seed with the San Antonio Spurs. The Thunder came in with a 3-0 season series lead, but the Nuggets were playing with house money and the altitude advantage. The Thunder, meanwhile, were without Jalen Williams (hamstring) and leaned heavily on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who poured in 31.3 points per game this season.
Nikola Jokić continued his MVP-level dominance, finishing with 27.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.8 assists in the win. He was the difference in the paint and on the glass, where the Nuggets outrebounded the Thunder 46-38. Jamal Murray added 25.2 points and 6.9 assists, hitting 11 of his 21 shot attempts.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 33 points, but he struggled with 10 turnovers, a stat that could prove costly in a close game. Chet Holmgren chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but Denver’s frontcourt duo of Jokić and Aaron Gordon limited his impact on both ends of the floor.
The game was tied at halftime, but Denver pulled away in the third quarter, using a 10-0 run to take a 87-79 lead. The Nuggets extended their lead in the fourth, though the Thunder kept it close with a late 7-2 run. Still, the altitude and home-court advantage proved too much for Oklahoma City.
This victory moves Denver to 52-28 on the season and keeps them in the thick of the second-seed race. The Thunder remain at 63-16 but now trail the Nuggets by one game in the loss column. With two games left in the regular season, both teams will continue to jockey for seeding in the West.
The Nuggets will look to close the regular season with a win when they host the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. The Thunder travel to Phoenix to take on the Suns in a key matchup for the top seed.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
