The Phoenix Suns defeated the Dallas Mavericks 118-104 on Wednesday night at Footprint Center, using their depth and superior shooting to secure a key win in the Western Conference. Devin Booker led the way with 25.9 points per game this season, while rookie sensation Cooper Flagg tallied 21.2 points and 6.6 rebounds in a losing effort. With the victory, Phoenix (43-36) solidified its position in the playoff race, while Dallas (25-54) continues its developmental season.
Booker carried the Suns' offense from the outset, hitting timely jumpers and drawing contact in the paint. His 25.9 scoring average this season was on full display as he shot 46.5% from the field. Phoenix’s ball movement and three-point shooting proved too much for a Mavericks team missing key contributors like Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Caleb Martin. The Suns shot 38.4% from beyond the arc, while Dallas managed just 29.1%.
Cooper Flagg remained a bright spot for Dallas, as he continues to lead all rookies in scoring. The 19-year-old forward showcased his two-way potential, finishing with 21.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game on the season. Klay Thompson also provided veteran presence off the bench, shooting 42.8% from the field and adding 14.5 points per game. However, the Mavericks struggled to keep pace in transition and had no answer for Phoenix’s second-unit depth.
Phoenix’s interior presence was another key factor in the win. Mark Williams, averaging 11.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, provided defensive stability and consistent scoring in the paint. His 56.5% field goal percentage allowed Phoenix to control the boards and limit Dallas’ second-chance opportunities. Jalen Green also provided a spark off the bench, pushing the pace and creating easy looks in transition.
The Mavericks will look to regroup for their final games of the season, focusing on the development of Flagg and other young players. Meanwhile, the Suns will continue their push for a top-six seed in the West. Phoenix will host the Golden State Warriors on Friday in a crucial matchup for playoff positioning. The Warriors currently sit at 41-38 and are also vying for a favorable seed.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
