Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams is questionable for Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals after being diagnosed with a left hamstring strain. The injury has replaced his previous designation of “soreness” and comes at a pivotal time as the Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are tied 2-2 in the series.
Williams left Game 2 with the injury and did not return. The Thunder have not given a timeline for his return but have indicated they are monitoring his progress closely. His availability for Tuesday’s Game 5 in San Antonio remains uncertain.
The Thunder will also be without guard Ajay Mitchell, who remains sidelined with a right calf injury. Mitchell missed Game 4 and is expected to sit out Game 5 as well. The Thunder have had to adjust their rotation, relying more heavily on players like Josh Giddey and TyTy Washington to fill the backcourt minutes.
Jalen Williams has averaged 15.3 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in the playoffs so far. His absence would be a major blow for a Thunder team that relies on his two-way contributions and playmaking ability. Without him, the Spurs could gain an edge on the perimeter and in transition.
The Thunder’s 102-99 win in Game 4 came despite Williams’ absence, as the team shot 49.8% from the field and held San Antonio to 42.3% shooting. That performance showed Oklahoma City can win without Williams, but his impact is still significant.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has called Williams “a matchup nightmare,” and his potential absence could affect how San Antonio plans to defend the Thunder’s offense. The Spurs have won two of the four games in the series but have struggled to contain Jalen Williams when he’s on the floor.
The Thunder will make their final decision on Williams’ status after Tuesday’s shootaround. If he sits, it will be the third consecutive game he has missed. The Thunder are scheduled to depart for San Antonio ahead of Game 5 and will hold a press availability before tipoff.
Game 5 is set for Tuesday at 9:30 PM ET at the AT&T Center. The winner will take a 3-2 series lead heading into Game 6 at home.
