The Utah Jazz have officially signed guard Hayden Gray to a two-year contract. The move comes after the expiration of Kennedy Chandler's second 10-day contract and returns the Jazz to the maximum 15-player roster.
Gray, 22, spent the 2023–24 season with the Maine Celtics in the G League. In 48 games with Maine, he started 23 and averaged 9.9 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. The 6-foot-4 guard played an average of 27.9 minutes per contest, showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple facets.
The Jazz are likely using the two-way contract exception to sign Gray. This allows them to maintain a 15-player roster while keeping Gray eligible for assignment to the Salt Lake City Stars, their G League affiliate. The move gives Utah flexibility as they continue to evaluate their backcourt depth.
Gray was a second-round pick by Boston in the 2022 NBA Draft. His performance in the G League impressed scouts across the league, and the Jazz now have an opportunity to assess him at the NBA level. With Gray on board, the Jazz can reduce their reliance on short-term contracts for bench players.
Kennedy Chandler, who signed two 10-day contracts with the Jazz, is no longer on the roster. Chandler averaged 7.2 points and 3.1 assists in 15 games with Utah. His departure opens the door for Gray to compete for a roster spot.
The Jazz are currently preparing for their next game on Monday against the Phoenix Suns. With the roster now finalized, Utah’s coaching staff will begin evaluating how Gray fits into their long-term plans.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
