Nneka Ogwumike has agreed to rejoin the Los Angeles Sparks after two seasons with the Seattle Storm. The news was first reported by her sister, Chiney Ogwumike, an ESPN analyst. Ogwumike spent her first 12 seasons in Los Angeles before departing for Seattle ahead of the 2024 campaign. Now she returns for her 15th professional season.
Ogwumike visited the Minnesota Lynx before finalizing her decision. The Sparks made her a priority, securing one of the league's most decorated players. A 10-time All-Star, Ogwumike brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the team.
In 2024, Ogwumike averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while shooting 51 percent from the floor. She played 31 minutes per contest, maintaining her efficiency and impact on both ends of the floor. Her consistency and production were key factors in her decision.
Ogwumike’s most decorated season with the Sparks came in 2016. That year, the team won the WNBA championship and Ogwumike was named league MVP. She posted career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and shooting percentage, cementing her legacy in Los Angeles.
Her return gives second-year coach Lynne Roberts a proven veteran anchor. The Sparks have already retained guard Kelsey Plum under the core designation. With no first-round draft pick, the team is building a roster centered around experienced players.
For the Storm, Ogwumike’s departure ends a two-season stint. The team will now look to replace a key contributor who averaged double-digit points and rebounds. Seattle’s front office will assess how to balance its roster for the 2025 season.
The Sparks are now fully focused on the 2025 campaign. With Ogwumike back and Plum locked in, the team has a foundation to compete. The regular season tips off May 24, with the Sparks’ first game at home against the Phoenix Mercury.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
