The Vegas Golden Knights erased a third-period deficit and earned a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night to take a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Final. Ivan Barbashev and Jack Eichel led the charge with a two-goal comeback in under two minutes, securing the Golden Knights’ franchise-best fourth third-period comeback win of the postseason.
Barbashev tallied the game-tying goal at 11:21 of the third period and then assisted on Eichel’s go-ahead goal at 13:28, one of the fastest two-goal sequences in Golden Knights playoff history. Barbashev finished with two goals and one assist for three points, while Eichel added a goal and an assist to reach 60 career playoff points in just 54 games, the fastest in team history.
The Golden Knights have now come from behind in the final 10 minutes of regulation in 27 playoff games this year, tying for the third most in NHL history at this stage of the postseason. The 2025 playoffs saw 28 such goals, and the 1989 playoffs saw 29.
Eichel’s performance was a key factor in Vegas’ success, as he now has 24 game-tying or go-ahead goals in the playoffs with the Golden Knights, tying him with Jonathan Marchessault for third on the franchise’s all-time list. Mark Stone leads with 34, and Shea Theodore has 32.

The Golden Knights are now the first team in franchise history to beat the Avalanche when trailing after two periods in the 2025-26 season, both in the regular season and playoffs. Colorado entered the series with a 45-1-0 record in such situations.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference Final, the Carolina Hurricanes look to even their series after falling 2-1 in Game 1. Taylor Hall will look to lead the Hurricanes back to the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in franchise history. The Hurricanes have not lost two consecutive home games since early January and will aim to avoid a 2-0 deficit in the series.
Montreal’s Juraj Slafkovský recorded three points in his Conference Final debut, including an assist on Cole Caufield’s opening goal. Caufield has now scored 21 of his 56 regular-season goals on Saturdays, a stat that ranks among the top single-season totals in Canadiens history.

The Golden Knights-Avalanche series drew the highest viewership for a Western Conference Final Game 1 since 2018, a sign of the growing intensity and national interest in the matchup.
Game 3 of the Western Conference Final will be played Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as the Golden Knights aim to take a three-game lead and put the Avalanche on the brink.
