The Tampa Bay Lightning rallied in the third period to beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 at TD Garden on Saturday, earning a critical point in the tightly contested Atlantic Division race. Emil Lilleberg scored the game-winner with 1:35 remaining, giving Tampa Bay a late lead and preserving a dramatic comeback win.
Lilleberg, who entered the night with just three goals in 47 games, capitalized on a rebound of Brayden Point’s shot from the high slot to break the 1-1 tie. The goal marked the first of Lilleberg’s career in a pivotal moment, as the Lightning outshot Boston 11-8 in the final frame. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 19 saves in net, including several key stops in the third, to help secure the victory.
Brandon Hagel, returning from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury, tied the game at 1-1 with a breakaway goal at 6:37 of the third. Hagel, who set a career high with his 36th goal of the season, received a pass from Gage Goncalves before deking past Jeremy Swayman and scoring five-hole. It was Hagel’s second goal in as many games and a major spark for Tampa Bay’s late surge.
Morgan Geekie gave Boston a 1-0 lead in the second period with his fourth goal in two games. A pinpoint pass from Charlie McAvoy set up the breakaway opportunity, and Geekie beat Vasilevskiy glove side for the tally. Swayman, who made 22 saves for Boston, kept the game scoreless in the first period with a sprawling stop on Gage Goncalves late in the frame.

Tampa Bay’s win moves them into a points tie with the Montreal Canadiens for second in the Atlantic. The Lightning (49-25-6) now sit within striking distance of the first wild card, while Boston (43-27-10) remains on the outside looking in for a playoff berth.
“We understand where we’re slotted in here and probably need some help, but we do have a chance to get home ice, so there’s still something to play for,” said Lightning head coach Jon Cooper.
The Bruins will have another opportunity to clinch Saturday if the Detroit Red Wings lose to the New Jersey Devils in regulation. Boston will then host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday, while Tampa Bay will continue its pursuit of a high seed in the playoffs.

“I thought we played a good game,” said Geekie. “They’re a good team and we stuck to our script for most of the game. We knew they were going to make a push in the third, but we weathered it pretty well. They capitalized on their opportunities, and it’s tough to see that one slip away.”
With the Stanley Cup Playoffs on the horizon, the race for the final playoff spots remains as tight as ever.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
