TITLE: James Hagens Signs with Bruins, Could Debut This Weekend
James Hagens signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins on Wednesday and is in line to make his NHL debut as early as Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 19-year-old forward, selected seventh overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, has already practiced with the team and is showing he's ready to contribute.
Hagens joins the Bruins with an average annual value of $975,000. The contract begins immediately and gives Boston flexibility with their cap space ahead of the playoffs. The team currently holds the first wild card in the Eastern Conference with a 43-26-10 record.
Before joining the Bruins, Hagens had an impressive run with Boston College. In his second season, he led the team with 47 points (23 goals, 24 assists) in 34 games. He also tallied six game-winning goals and two hat tricks. His performance earned him a spot on Hockey East’s All-Rookie Team in 2024-25.
Hagens joined the Providence Bruins on an amateur tryout on March 24 and has already made an impact. In six AHL games, he has four points (one goal, three assists). His quick transition to pro hockey has impressed coaches and scouts alike.
Prior to college, Hagens spent two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program. Over 68 games, he recorded 187 points (72 goals, 115 assists), ranking fifth in program history. His international experience is also extensive. He played in two IIHF World Junior Championships and two U-18 Men’s World Championships, winning gold in 2023 and 2025.

At the 2024 U-18 tournament, Hagens set a single-tournament record with 22 points and was named MVP. His standout play helped the U.S. secure a silver medal. A native of Hauppauge, New York, Hagens has shown he can perform at the highest levels of the game.
The Bruins are in a tight playoff race and have three regular-season games left. Hagens could provide a spark to a team that has lost four of its last five games. If he plays Saturday, he will become the first player from the 2025 Draft class to appear in an NHL game.
The Lightning are also in the mix for the Atlantic Division title. A potential debut for Hagens in Tampa Bay would be a high-stakes moment for the rookie. The Bruins will look to end their four-game slide and continue their push into the postseason.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
