The Chicago White Sox came from behind in the ninth inning to defeat the Seattle Mariners 6-5 in a dramatic finish that lifted them to 25-23 on the season.
The win moved Chicago back above .500 for the first time since May 1, and put them just two games back of the first-place Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central. The White Sox are now one of only four American League teams with a winning record entering Wednesday’s games, joining the Rays and Yankees.
The White Sox’s offense has been the driving force behind their recent resurgence. The team ranks sixth in slugging percentage and third in ISO, trailing only New York and Atlanta in the power department. Chicago has hit 67 home runs, second in the majors behind only the Yankees, and leads the league in wRC+ among American League teams.
Despite missing catcher Kyle Teel, who was one of their top hitters in 2025 before injuries sidelined him, the White Sox infield has been a powerhouse. The unit has been instrumental in the team’s offensive turnaround, with key contributors hitting for both average and power.
Chicago’s recent success has been especially surprising given their historical struggles. The team had one of the worst three-year stretches in MLB history entering 2026, making this current run all the more impressive.
The White Sox pitching staff has also shown signs of improvement. Starter Michael Kopech limited Seattle to just three runs over six innings, while the bullpen held firm until the top of the ninth.
Chicago’s offense came alive in the ninth after a bases-loaded walk by Mariners closer Emilio Lopez. Luis Robert Jr. drove in two with a single, and the White Sox added another run before sealing the win with a walk-off single.
The White Sox will look to build on this momentum when they face the Guardians in Cleveland on Thursday. The series opener is a key matchup in the AL Central race, with Chicago aiming to close the gap on Cleveland.
