Travis Kelce has expanded his ownership footprint beyond football, purchasing a minority stake in the Cleveland Guardians. The longtime Kansas City Chiefs tight end made the announcement through the Guardians, though the exact percentage of the stake remains undisclosed. Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion and 11-time Pro Bowler, brings more than $111 million in career earnings and a deep personal connection to Cleveland.
“I have so much love for this city,” Kelce said in a statement to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. “I say it all time: I’m just a kid from the Heights living the dream. I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic.”
Kelce grew up in Cleveland Heights during the 1990s, a golden era for Guardians baseball featuring Hall of Fame-caliber players like Kenny Lofton, Carlos Baerga, Jim Thome, and Sandy Alomar Jr. The franchise has a rich history in the city, and Kelce’s investment signals a renewed commitment to the community and the sport.
The Dolan family, led by Paul Dolan, still holds the majority ownership of the Guardians. Larry Dolan, who passed away in February 2025 at age 94, had bought the team in 2000 for $323 million. Today, the franchise is valued at over $1.6 billion, according to recent estimates.
In 2022, the Dolan family agreed to sell a 25-30% stake in the Guardians to David Blitzer, a prominent sports investor with stakes in the 76ers, Devils, Commanders, and Real Salt Lake. That deal included an option for Blitzer to purchase a majority stake in 2028.
Kelce’s stake is not expected to be large, but it does position him to potentially increase his share in the future. The move also sets up an interesting ownership rivalry in the American League Central, as Kelce’s Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes holds a minority stake in the Kansas City Royals.
Kelce, 37, ranks third all-time in receptions and receiving yards by a tight end and fifth in touchdowns. He continues to play at an elite level, with 72 catches for 908 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games during the 2024 season.
The Guardians will look to continue their rebuild as they head into the 2025 season. The club is expected to finalize their spring training roster by early February.
