Carolina 3, Montreal 2 (OT)
Andrei Svechnikov scored his first career playoff overtime goal to lead the Hurricanes to a 3-2 win over the Canadiens in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final. The victory gave Carolina a 2-1 series lead, bringing the team one win away from returning to the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in franchise history. Svechnikov’s heroics continued a dominant overtime streak for the Hurricanes, who now have seven consecutive wins in playoff games needing extra time.
Svechnikov’s goal came at 3:12 of the extra session after Montreal had controlled much of the third period. It was the first Conference Finals game at Bell Centre with a full crowd in nearly 12 years, adding to the electric atmosphere. The Hurricanes have now won six straight playoff games requiring overtime, matching their longest streak in franchise history.
Carolina’s overtime prowess is historic. The team has now won two consecutive overtime playoff games for the sixth time overall and the third time at this stage of the postseason. The last time the Hurricanes reached the Stanley Cup Final was in 2006, and they are now just two wins from returning.

The Canadiens looked to be in control after a 2-1 lead in the third period but couldn’t hold off the resilient Hurricanes. Montreal’s offense struggled to generate consistent pressure in the final frame, and the Hurricanes capitalized in the extra session.
Meanwhile in the Western Conference Final, the Golden Knights look to sweep the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avalanche in Game 4. Vegas leads the series 3-0 and has the chance to become just the seventh team in NHL history to reach the Stanley Cup Final in their first nine seasons. Mark Stone and Nazem Kadri will be key players in what promises to be a high-stakes matchup.

The NHL Draft is just one month away, with the Maple Leafs holding the top overall pick for the first time in a decade. The draft will take place in Buffalo, where they last picked first in 2016. Top prospects Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg are expected to be among the names called early on June 26.
The next game in the East will see the Canadiens try to avoid a 3-0 deficit as they host Game 4. In the West, the Golden Knights aim to clinch the series and advance to the Stanley Cup Final. The pressure is on for Colorado as they look to force Game 5 and avoid a historic sweep.
